Description

This is a sport from a Nero 600M tree that produces spade shaped leaves instead of the normally highly lobed leaves for this variety. The picture shows the sport branch on our mother tree. We have propagated the tree for three seasons now and it appears to not revert easily, and produces clones with the same leave shapes. This sport has the same fruit as a normal Nero 600M, but with a different leaf shape.

The Nero 600M was discovered in the Apennine Mountains (Italy), in a place named Vallecalda di Borgofornari, at an elevation of 600 meters, hence the name. Despite the cold winters of the Apennine Mountains, this fig tree bears a significant and successful crop of brebas and a very large main crop. Breba crop production is good and the fruits resist dropping when exposed to sudden temperature changes. The taste is sugary sweet and the skin is thin. The fruit size is small to medium.
